The Roughriders quarterback situation just got a lot more interesting.

Rumours had been swirling around former NFL quarterback Vince Young for weeks, after 3 Down Nation reported Young had been added to the Roughriders negotiation list.

Thursday afternoon the rumours took flight when Young’s agent, Leigh Steinberg, tweeted he’s in talks with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The Roughriders, however, would not confirm they were negotiating with Steinberg. In his press conference Wednesday, general manager and head coach Chris Jones said he preferred to speak about the players they’ve already signed.

The question of who would be the next starting quarterback for the Roughriders started when Darian Durant was traded to Montreal in January, though finding and developing a capable back up has been a goal of Jones’ since he came to Saskatchewan. After the Riders traded Durant, they signed Kevin Glenn, but the club also has four young QBs on the roster: Jake Waters, Brandon Bridge, G.J. Kinne and Bryan Bennett. Jones has not committed to any of them as the 2017 starter.

Young was picked third overall by the Tennessee Titans in the 2006 NFL Draft. He played six seasons with the Titans and the Eagles. He has also been a member of the Bills, Packers and Browns.

Young’s thrown for nearly 9,000 career yards with 46 touchdowns and 51 interceptions, but hasn’t taken a pro snap since 2011. He announced his retirement before the 2014 NFL season.
